Kurukshetra (Paridhi Dhasmana), 11 April – In a dramatic early morning encounter, police and criminals clashed near Sharifgarh, a village in the Shahbad area of Kurukshetra. The incident unfolded when two men, believed to be members of a gang, were intercepted while attempting to extort a ransom from a rice trader.
According to reports, police received a tip-off early in the morning regarding suspicious activity in the area. Acting swiftly, a specialized team known as CIA-1 was dispatched to the scene. Upon arrival, they set up a circle around the alleged criminals. When the suspects attempted to flee the scene, police responded with a counter-action that resulted in both individuals being shot. The suspects sustained severe injuries during the confrontation.
Both injured men were initially treated at a civil hospital in Shahbad. Due to the seriousness of their injuries, they were later transferred to Kurukshetra’s Loknayak Jayprakash Citizen Hospital (LJPH), where they continue to receive intensive care. Their current condition remains serious.
Authorities suspect that the two individuals are linked to a larger criminal gang. It is reported that these men, hailing from different parts of the region—one from Patiala in Punjab and the other from the village of Kir Mach in Kurukshetra—had targeted the local rice trader for ransom. This incident is not isolated; just yesterday, criminals had also fired shots at an IELTS centre in Shahbad while demanding ransom. Police are now actively probing to determine if the two cases are connected.

Law enforcement agencies have registered the case and initiated a thorough investigation into the early morning clash and the surrounding criminal activities. Investigators are examining both incidents in an effort to dismantle the gang network and prevent further such occurrences.
Authorities urge the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities while they work to ensure the safety and security of the region.
