Gurugram (Paridhi Dhasmana), 14 May – In a bid to strengthen community resilience and bolster disaster preparedness, DC & Controller of Civil Defence Ajay Kumar has issued a public appeal urging residents of Gurugram to join the Civil Defence volunteer team. By enlisting in this citywide initiative, citizens can play a vital role in disaster management, public‐awareness campaigns, and community service.
Ajay Kumar emphasized that a well‐trained volunteer corps is the backbone of effective emergency response. “We invite all responsible and committed individuals to come forward and contribute to the safety and well‐being of our city,” he said. “By stepping up today, you will acquire the skills to manage crises, educate your neighbors, and be a trusted collaborator when every second counts.”
It should be noted that, amid India–Pakistan tensions, mock drills and blackout exercises were conducted. During those drills, the blackout failed to succeed in many locations. Now, after the ceasefire between India and Pakistan, the administration is finalizing its preparations to handle any similar emergency situation. Consequently, an initiative is underway to enlist Civil Defence volunteers.
The volunteer registration event will be held on May 14, 2025, at 8:00 AM at Tau Devi Lal Stadium in Gurugram. Interested residents may secure their place by completing the online registration form at https://forms.gle/nKqAXArX2wsmDHX38 or by scanning the QR code displayed across local community centers. Organizers advise early arrival to allow time for orientation materials and introductory briefings.
Volunteers will receive comprehensive training in disaster preparedness, including first‐aid procedures, evacuation coordination, and risk‐awareness techniques. In addition to hands‐on drills, they will help lead public‐awareness campaigns on fire safety, flood readiness, and health emergencies. As trained Civil Defence volunteers, they will stand ready to support professional agencies and protect vulnerable populations during times of crisis.
Beyond the immediate practical benefits, participation offers lasting rewards for both volunteers and the wider community. “Becoming a Civil Defence volunteer equips you with leadership skills and instills a deep sense of civic pride,” noted Kumar. “Your efforts will directly contribute to a safer, more informed Gurugram, capable of facing any challenge together.”
Registration is now open and will remain so through the day of the event. Be trained. Be ready. Serve when it matters—make a difference in your community by signing up today.
Earlier, in Chandigarh, thousands of young people had also flocked in droves to join the Civil Defence.
