Gurugram (Paridhi Dhasmana/Mohit Kumar), 4 April. Today, the Gurugram Police launched the S.A.A.T.H (Seniors’ Assistance and Timely Help) project with senior residents of Sector 4. IPS Vikas Arora briefed those in attendance on several new features of the initiative. He announced the launch of a dedicated website—”Senior Citizens Helpline”—and the activation of a landline number, 01242221559, for seniors to report issues.
Gurugram Police has updated its S.A.A.T.H (Seniors’ Assistance and Timely Help) initiative to further strengthen the safety and well-being of senior citizens. Additionally, a dedicated officer will be assigned to senior’s, with the flexibility to contact/visit them weekly or fortnightly based on their preference. This officer will maintain regular contact with senior residents, assist with various tasks—including liaising with the Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG), hospitals, or the Electricity Department—and verify the credentials of servants or drivers. The officer will also save their contact number in the senior’s mobile phone to ensure immediate communication during emergencies. These updates aim to provide comprehensive support and foster a safer environment for the elderly community in Gurugram.
In addition to these measures, IPS, Vikas Arora mentioned that the police have held meetings with local RWAs and conducted a cyber awareness drive for senior citizens—a move that has already contributed to a reduction in cyber crime. He expressed hope that this trend would continue, ensuring a safer environment for the elderly.
The work under this project is set to begin the day after registrations are completed. A detailed SOP has been issued, reflecting several modifications aimed at improving efficiency and accountability. As part of the broader crackdown on crime, the department reported that 1,800 cyber criminals have been arrested and that incidents of road accidents, robbery, and snatching have declined. Under Article 111, repeat offenders now face the possibility of a lifetime imprisonment penalty—a policy designed to further deter crime.
To ensure strict adherence to operational protocols, Gurugram Police have initiated surprise inspections and visits to assess compliance. Officers found deficient in their duties during these evaluations are subject to disciplinary measures. Recently, a Station House Officer (SHO) was suspended for failing to record complaints over a period of 20–25 days. Additionally, three officers, including an SHO and an Investigating Officer (IO), have been suspended for similar lapses. These actions reflect the department’s commitment to maintaining high standards and accountability within the force.
