Gurugram, 23 April – In a joint initiative to commemorate Earth Day, Navkalp Foundation and GAV School, Sector-7 Extension, convened students and volunteers to reaffirm their commitment to environmental protection and biodiversity conservation.
The program began with the chanting of the Gayatri Mantra, setting a reflective tone for the day’s activities. Over seventy students—dubbed “Green Warriors”—made a collective pledge to safeguard the planet and its resources. Through handmade posters, original poems and carefully crafted slogans, the children conveyed a clear message: the health of the environment and the well-being of humanity are inextricably linked.
As part of the event, participants planted saplings across the school grounds, reinforcing the Foundation’s belief that every action, however small, forms part of a larger effort to preserve the Earth. Concurrently, Navkalp’s “Dana-Pani Nest” campaign introduced students to the importance of caring for local bird populations. Under the guidance of Minakshi Saxena, co-ordinator of the Foundation’s arts and culture wing, children from nursery through senior grades enthusiastically installed bird-feed and water stations, demonstrating practical steps anyone can take to support urban wildlife.
Navkalp Foundation’s Secretary, Dr. Sunil Arya, addressed the assembly on the fundamental role of forests, clean air and natural ecosystems in human survival. He urged GAV School’s leadership to organize regular forest excursions to foster a deeper connection between students and the natural world. In response, Chairman Pradeep Kaushik and Principal Jyoti Yadav were lauded for their efforts in integrating environmental education into the school curriculum.
Looking ahead, Dr. Arya announced that Navkalp Foundation will launch a series of guided forest trips for school children later this year, in collaboration with conservation organizations and subject-matter experts. “By experiencing nature firsthand,” he noted, “students will develop a lifelong sense of responsibility toward the environment.”
This Earth Day event underscored a practical, action-oriented approach: planting trees, supporting birdlife, and cultivating informed stewardship as essential measures for sustaining the planet.
