Gurugram, 23 July – Just days after his official police protection was withdrawn, Haryanvi and Bollywood singer Rahul Yadav—popularly known as Rahul Fazilpuriya—survived a targeted firing attack on July 14. The incident has sparked serious concerns over security lapses and administrative inaction.
According to a memorandum addressed to the Commissioner of Police, Gurugram, by former Haryana Deputy Chief Minister Dushyant Chautala, Fazilpuriya had been facing threats for some time, including a threatening phone call in Punjabi received on the evening of the firing. In addition, several social media posts by individuals and groups had recently targeted him with threats.
Despite these red flags, the singer’s police security was withdrawn prior to the incident. Chautala states in the letter that he had personally urged the Commissioner via phone, two weeks before the attack, to maintain Fazilpuriya’s security. That request, the letter notes, went unheeded—and the firing occurred just a week after the security cover was lifted.
The memorandum calls the attack a “serious breach of public safety” and demands urgent action. Three suspects involved in the attack are still absconding, as per the police. The letter urges swift investigation into the incident, arrest of all involved, and a full probe into the motive behind the attack.
Chautala has also demanded immediate reinstatement and strengthening of Fazilpuriya’s police protection, highlighting the ongoing threat to his life and his public profile as reasons for round-the-clock security.
The letter concludes with an appeal for the matter to be treated with the utmost urgency, stating that the rule of law must be upheld and that the perpetrators must be brought to justice without delay.
