Gurugram (Mohit Kumar/Paridhi Dhasmana), 8 August—In a concerted effort to make Gurugram city encroachment-free, District Nodal Officer R.S. Batth on Friday chaired the first review meeting of the anti-encroachment action plan, bringing together enforcement teams from the Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG), Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA), Traffic Police Department and Haryana Shahari Vikas Pradhikaran (HSVP). With around 80 field officials—including all Junior Engineers and their staff—in attendance, the session underscored the progress achieved since December 2024 and laid out intensified drives running through mid-September.
Since the launch of the Gurugram anti-encroachment campaign, local authorities have conducted roughly 120 enforcement drives and 500 inspection visits, taking action at more than 70 locations and reclaiming 130 acres of government land. In the past four months alone, about 80 targeted operations cleared encroachments along vital corridors such as Southern Peripheral Road, Sadar Bazar, Trunk Market, Rajendra Park and Sabji Mandi, demonstrating that nearly 80 percent of obstructions have been removed from 60 percent of the identified hotspots.
Land reclamation efforts have been particularly notable in Sector 21/22, 62, 63, Badshahpur, Naurangpur, Kasan and Khoh villages, where 45 acres of government property were freed. An additional 60 acres of green belt along SPR Road have been restored, while enforcement teams have covered a 60 km stretch of city roads. Authorities also highlighted the removal of illegal meat shops in Nathupur, Hari Nagar, Khandsa Road and Vatika Chowk, prompting many vendors to apply for proper licences, as well as the dismantling of an unauthorised Gau Shala at Vatika Chowk, which yielded another reclaimed acre of land.
Moving forward, departments will maintain vigilant monitoring of critical sectors—MG Road, Rajiv Chowk, Bus Stand Road, Old Gurugram near the church and Sanath Road—to prevent re-encroachment. In addition, the next phase of enforcement drives will focus on areas flagged by local residents, including New Railway Road, Old Railway Road, Jharsa Road, Fazilpur Road and Tikri Road, alongside markets in Sikanderpur and sectors 4, 14, 22 and 23, as well as Ardee City’s green belt and the utility corridor in Sector 90.
“From August 15 to September 15, five dedicated teams of five to eight members will conduct daily anti-encroachment operations, covering five locations per day,” R.S. Batth said, emphasizing the vital role of public participation alongside sustained inter-agency coordination and community awareness in keeping Gurugram’s public spaces free of illegal occupation.
As enforcement drives ramp up, Gurugram’s administration is poised to deliver on its promise of reclaiming public land and creating safer, more accessible urban corridors for residents and businesses alike.
