Gurugram, September 28. Haryana Chief Minister, Nayab Singh Saini said that on September 22, Prime Minister, Narendra Modi took another significant step towards building a self-reliant India by implementing GST reforms. With this new GST regime, the people of Haryana will benefit by nearly Rs. 4,000 crore. These reforms will prove to be a milestone in building Atmanirbhar Bharat and Atmanirbhar Haryana.
The Chief Minister was directly interacting with entrepreneurs during the GST Bachat Utsav.
programme organized by the Excise and Taxation Department, Haryana in Gurugram on Sunday. He extended his greetings to all entrepreneurs on the auspicious occasion of Navratri.
He said that the announcement of GST reforms was made by Prime Minister, Narendra Modi on Independence Day this year, and within just one month, that announcement has been fulfilled. This shows that every Modi guarantee is indeed delivered.
He said that for decades, people of the country were entangled in the web of multiple taxes. India had dozens of different taxes, causing hardships for citizens and companies alike. Under the able leadership of Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, the country has been freed from this web of dozens of taxes, and the dream of One Nation – One Tax has been realized, he said.
Self-Reliant India will be Built Through Swadeshi
The Chief Minister said that Prime Minister, Narendra Modi has called for adopting Swadeshi, envisioned Atmanirbhar Bharat, and during his recent visit to Japan, presented the vision of Make in India for the World. These reforms will also play a key role in realizing that vision. With them, consumer goods used in daily life have become cheaper. This has increased the savings of the middle class and the upcoming festive season shopping will bring great benefits to the markets, he said.
Nayab Singh Saini said that Haryana’s tax base has expanded and GST collection has risen. Haryana’s net SGST collection increased from Rs. 18,910 crore in 2018-19 to Rs. 39,743 crore in 2024-25, showing a 110 percent growth.
Referring to the major decisions taken by the GST Council, the Chief Minister said that now there will be only two standard GST rates in the country, 5 percent and 18 percent. Additionally, a special rate of 40 percent has been kept for harmful goods. He said that in the year 2024-25, Haryana ranked 5th among the leading states in the country in gross GST collection.
He added that GST rates on commonly used goods have been reduced, and on some items, they have been completely removed. The cess has also been removed to further reduce the tax burden on people. The registration process has been simplified.
The Chief Minister said that Haryana is an agriculture-dominated state. In the current reforms, the GST Council has also kept the interests of agriculture and farmers in mind. GST rates on agricultural equipment used in crop residue management have been reduced.
GST Reforms a Big Relief for Families with Limited Means: Rao Narbir Singh
Haryana Industries and Commerce Minister, Rao Narbir Singh said that the GST slab reforms introduced by Prime Minister, Narendra Modi will bring historic changes in the lives of common citizens.
The Cabinet Minister said that GST reforms will also strengthen the country’s economy and accelerate business activities. He said that traders will not suffer any loss in implementing the new GST rates, as their recovery is fully ensured. He urged traders to ensure that this benefit reaches the common consumer so that every family can reap the real advantages of this historic initiative of the Prime Minister.
Commissioner and Secretary, Excise and Taxation Department, Ashima Brar welcomed Chief Minister, Nayab Singh Saini and said that the new GST slab system is in the interest of traders, industrialists, and common consumers alike. An awareness week on tax reforms is being celebrated in all districts of the state until September 29 so that even the last person in society can benefit from GST savings.
During the programme, representatives of various industrial groups honored Chief Minister, Nayab Singh Saini.
On this occasion, MLAs Smt. Bimla Chaudhary, Tejpal Tanwar, Mukesh Sharma, Mayor Gurugram Municipal Corporation, Rajrani Malhotra, Excise and Taxation Commissioner, Vinay Pratap Singh, Media Advisor to Chief Minister, Rajeev Jaitly along with officers from various departments and representatives of business organizations also remained present.
