Gurugram, 01 December 2025. Haryana’s Director General of Police, O.P. Singh, conducted a surprise inspection today at the Cyber Crime Police Station (East), Gurugram. The most remarkable aspect of this inspection was that he himself arrived at the police station posing as a victim of a digital arrest scam, so that he could personally assess the actual process, behaviour, and quality of assistance received by an ordinary citizen.
The sentry posted at the police station followed the prescribed protocol and guided him to the investigating officer, explaining the process of filing a complaint. During this visit, the Director General of Police reviewed the functioning of the police station, the victim assistance mechanism, the response system, and the awareness framework in detail.
DGP speaks on cybercrime response, victim support, and awareness initiatives
After the inspection, Singh interacted with the media and shared key steps being taken to prevent cybercrimes, provide quick relief to victims, and enhance public awareness. He stated that Haryana Police is adopting consistent, effective, and innovative strategies to address the evolving challenges posed by cybercrime.
Quick resolution of small frozen bank amounts—relief through Lok Adalat
The DGP informed that for cases where small amounts of money are frozen by banks, Haryana Police will facilitate speedy financial relief to victims through Lok Adalat, ensuring timely refund without unnecessary delay.
Bank’s responsibility in case of negligence during cyber fraud
He clarified that if negligence by a bank is found in any case of cyber fraud, the bank will be held responsible for compensating the victim’s financial loss. This serves as an important protection for victims’ rights.
Cyber Awareness Ambassadors to be created in schools and colleges
To make society more cyber-secure, Singh said that awareness will be taken to a campaign level.
Along with social media, community programs, and statewide initiatives—
special teams of head students will be formed in schools and colleges,
who will be designated as Cyber Awareness Ambassadors.
These ambassadors will educate their peers within their institutions about cybercrime prevention.
DGP’s message to the public – “Stay alert, stay safe”
O.P. Singh said,
“Most cybercrimes exploit fear and greed. If anyone promises high returns, offers undue benefits, or pressures you into transferring money or sharing information—understand that you are being targeted by cyber fraudsters. Caution is your best protection.”
He urged citizens to remain alert to any suspicious call, link, app, or offer, and to immediately lodge a complaint on the Cyber Helpline 1930 whenever necessary.
“Haryana Police is continuously taking strict action against cybercrime”
The DGP assured that Haryana Police is working in mission mode to combat cybercrime.
Efforts will continue to ensure justice for victims, strengthen the technical capacity of police stations, and enhance digital safety across the state.
