Gurugram (Mohit Kumar), August 13. Following the review meeting held on 7th August under the chairmanship of R.S. Batth, DTP-cum-District Nodal Officer, the Municipal Corporation Gurugram (MCG) and Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) enforcement teams have significantly intensified their anti-encroachment operations and public awareness campaigns across the city.
After nearly four months of sustained on-ground efforts, the review meeting paved the way for a stronger, more coordinated approach. To scale up efforts and ensuring swift and visible action against illegal encroachments in Gurugram, five dedicated enforcement teams from MCG and GMDA were formed by R.S. Batth to carry out continuous drives over three days, operating simultaneously at multiple locations.
Major drives were conducted at Church Gate, Gurudwara Road, Subhash Chowk, Candor 47, Sector 4/7 Road, and Nirwana Country, along with public announcements in Sector 23 Market, Dhanwapur Road, and Sector 4 Market.
A major drive was also undertaken on a 1 km stretch of the Dhanwapur–Surya Vihar Road, resulting in the demolition of illegal sheds and encroachments in front of around 100 shops. Extended ramps and unauthorized advertisement boards installed by shopkeepers were removed. Public appreciation poured in for the enforcement teams, particularly as residents highlighted that many illegal carts in the area—linked to illicit liquor supply and drug-related activities—were removed, making the locality safer for women, who earlier avoided the stretch after evening hours.
Additional enforcement action was also taken at Sector 5 Chowk–Krishna Chowk, Mayfield Garden (Sector 50), and the Bus Stand area, with announcements also made at Jyoti Park Road and Bhondsi–Sohna Road urging voluntary removal of encroachments from footpaths and cooperate with authorities in keeping public spaces obstruction-free.
R.S. Batth stated, “Coordinated enforcement and awareness measures will continue as per the anti-encroachment action plan. Public spaces must remain accessible to all, free from illegal occupation.” He further informed that a month-long programme till 30th September will soon be rolled out, under which three enforcement drives will be conducted daily by different teams across Gurugram.
These drives aim to clear illegal occupations, improve pedestrian and vehicular movement, and raise awareness among shopkeepers, vendors, and the public about the importance of maintaining open and accessible public spaces.
