Gurugram, 19 May – An 11-year-old girl from Gurugram went missing on May 18 after slipping away with a woman she had befriended on Instagram, embarking on an unsupervised trip to the Taj Mahal in Agra without informing her parents. Late that night, her distressed mother filed a missing-person report at the Sector-14 police station, prompting an immediate search. Officers soon traced the girl’s movements to Agra and safely reunited her with her family the following morning.
On May 18 at approximately 5 p.m., the minor left her home in Gurugram under the pretense of visiting a friend, but instead met the Instagram acquaintance and boarded transportation bound for Agra. The girl’s mother, Manju Saini, became alarmed when her daughter failed to return by curfew and, after hours of fruitless searching, lodged a formal complaint at the Sector-14 police station late in the evening.
Acting on the report, Gurugram police launched an urgent search operation. By early May 19, investigators confirmed via digital forensics and local inquiries that the missing child had reached Agra’s railway station with the adult Instagram contact. A coordinated effort with Agra police units enabled them to locate the duo near the Taj Mahal monument by mid-morning.
Upon confirming the girl’s identity, officers intervened and brought her to the Agra police station. She was unharmed and in good spirits, though clearly shaken by the ordeal. Authorities immediately notified her parents, who traveled to Agra and were reunited with their daughter around noon on May 19.
Senior Inspector R. K. Sharma of Sector-14 police emphasized the lesson of this incident: “Parents must monitor their children’s online interactions, and minors should be educated about the risks of trusting strangers on social platforms.” He further advised guardians to set clear rules about seeking permission before meeting anyone in person, especially those met via social media.
Relieved by her daughter’s safe return, Manju Saini expressed profound gratitude to the Gurugram and Agra police: “We are eternally thankful for their swift action. This has been a terrifying experience, but we’re just so happy to have our child home again.” The police have counselled the family on online safety practices and warned the minor about the dangers of unsupervised digital friendships.
