Wife was not returning home
Repeated pleas to in‑laws to bring her back were ignored
Husband even attempted to strangle his father‑in‑law once
He lured his 10‑year‑old sister‑in‑law to his home
At night, he strangled her, packed her body in a sack, and dumped it in a manhole
Gurugram (Paridhi Dhasmana), 16 April – In a horrifying incident in Gurugram, 24‑year‑old Mohit Kumar has been arrested after he allegedly strangled his 10‑year‑old sister‑in‑law and disposed of her body in a manhole. Mohit, whose marriage took place six years ago in Om Vihar and who has a child, became increasingly frustrated over his wife’s persistent absence. His wife had been staying at her maternal home due to ongoing marital disputes, and despite his repeated requests, his in‑laws refused to bring her back.
The situation escalated when Mohit felt deeply humiliated by what he perceived as neglect from his in‑laws. Earlier, he had even attempted to strangle his father‑in‑law, though he was unsuccessful. According to police reports, on April 12 Mohit seized an opportunity; he coaxed his 10‑year‑old sister‑in‑law, Saniya, with gentle persuasion and brought her to his home on his bike. That night, he strangled the innocent child using a dupatta and then placed her body inside a plastic bag, covering it with a shawl before packing it into a sack. He subsequently dumped the sack in a manhole connected to the filthy drainage system in the Bajghera area.
Family members searched for Saniya for two days. When she was not found, they filed a missing person complaint at the Palam Vihar police station on April 14. This prompted the police to thoroughly review CCTV footage and conduct extensive inquiries with relatives and neighbors. The investigation revealed simmering tensions within the family, including disputes between the complainant’s eldest daughter and her husband, which added to the overall volatile atmosphere.
A rigorous police investigation eventually led to the arrest of Mohit Kumar on Tuesday. During interrogation, Mohit explained that his extreme actions were driven by the humiliation he felt over his wife’s continual absence and the in‑laws’ unwillingness to return her to him. Following Mohit’s arrest, a Special Disaster Response Force (SDRF) team assisted the police in recovering the body from the polluted drain. The authorities have now registered multiple charges related to the murder.
Further details on the case are awaited as the investigation continues.
