Gurugram (Mohit Kumar), August 5. In a joint initiative to make city roads encroachment-free and improve public safety, the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) and the Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG) conducted the second phase of the anti-encroachment drive along Sheetla Mata Road on Tuesday.
The drive, monitored by District Town Planner, GMDA, RS Batth, began with an inspection from Atul Kataria Chowk to CRPF Chowk, where it was found that nearly 90% of the stretch is already encroachment-free, with only 2-3 shops having minor encroachments.
The team then proceeded to Sector 5 Chowk to Krishna Chowk, where large-scale encroachments by shopkeepers were identified. Despite repeated public announcements, some major encroachments were not removed voluntarily and had to be cleared immediately using JCB machines.
Key Highlights of the Drive
Approximately 250 shops across a 500-metre stretch were found to have encroached on public land. Warnings were re-issued to the violators to clear the encroachment within 2-3 days’ time. Few shopkeepers immediately followed the directives and took necessary action.
Encroachments of around 15 feet on either side of the road in the form of illegal ramps were demolished.
About 30 shops with high-level ramps were cleared to allow smooth movement and facilitate parking.
Shopkeepers were advised to maintain proper levels in front of their shops for parking purposes.
During the drive, local residents appreciated the efforts of GMDA and MCG. Residents also raised concerns regarding illegal parking on the drain and safety issues for women due to certain illegal activities in the area. DTP RS Batth directed shopkeepers to remove illegal parking within 2 days to ensure public safety and smooth traffic flow.
The drive was conducted under the supervision of DTP RS Batth, along with ATP Mange Ram, JE Sumit, and JE Ashish from GMDA, and JE Ankit and his team from MCG.
“We are determined to remove all forms of encroachment, and joint teams of GMDA and MCG are working day and night to ensure public convenience and safety. We are grateful for the public’s support and assure that removal of encroachments will create better parking spaces and smoother traffic in congested areas,” said DTP RS Batth.
The anti-encroachment drives will continue across other congested stretches in the city to ensure clean, safe, and obstruction-free roads for citizens.
