ISS stay may affect Williams & Wilmore’s health
Gurugram (Paridhi Dhasmana), 18 March. The countdown begins! NASA’s extended ISS mission nears its end as astronauts Sunita Williams and Butch Wilmore are set to re-enter Earth’s atmosphere at 3:27 am IST tomorrow. Health experts warn that after nine months in microgravity—where astronauts often face muscle atrophy, bone density loss, and cardiovascular deconditioning—the intense re-entry process can place additional strain on their bodies due to high g-forces and rapid shifts in gravity.
In an update, a NASA spokesperson confirmed that advanced monitoring systems will track the astronauts’ vital signs during descent, and a dedicated medical team awaits their splashdown to provide immediate care if needed. NASA is also implementing enhanced recovery protocols, including fluid loading and targeted physical therapy, to help mitigate the potential health impacts of transitioning back to Earth’s gravity.
Stay tuned for live updates as we follow their historic journey back home and monitor how these challenges are managed during recovery.
