Faridabad (Ajay Kumar/Paridhi Dhasmana), 14 May – A video that surfaced on social media shows students at Model Sanskriti Primary School in Chhainsa village being forced to shovel soil into unattended campus pits—a job meant for hired labourers—triggering an immediate education department investigation.
The footage, reportedly shot on May 6, captures children carrying basins of earth across the school grounds to fill water-logged holes left by incomplete repairs. Eyewitness and parent Kalyan Singh, who filmed the incident, says the school had initially engaged labourers to deposit the soil, but those workers left before completing the task, prompting staff to compel pupils to finish the work.
Under normal procedures, the state education department issues annual repair grants and contracts external workers for such maintenance. No teacher was present when students were made to operate shovels and haul heavy loads.
District Education Officer Ajit Singh confirmed that the school principal and relevant staff have been summoned for a formal inquiry. “Forcing children into manual labour is unacceptable,” he stated, and vowed strict action against anyone found guilty under child-labour laws.
