Gurugram (Paridhi Dhasmana), 11 April – A long-awaited civic initiative has finally been set in motion in Sector 7 of Gurugram, thanks to the efforts of Ward 32 Municipal Councillor Vijay Parmar and his team. The project, aimed at eliminating the foul smell and health hazards caused by an open drain near Arya Vidya Mandir, has begun with drain cleaning, disconnection of illegal sewage connections, and installation of slabs to cover the drain.
Rajiv Kumar, Councillor Team Member from BJP, stated that the drain had been a persistent issue for the local residents for over three years. “The people were forced to endure unbearable stench and unsanitary conditions. Under the leadership of Councillor Vijay Parmar, cleaning of the drain, removal of illegal connections, and covering the drain with slabs has now started,” said Kumar.
Another significant development came near Kataria Market, where illegal sewage connections were identified and disconnected. Additional disconnections are planned in the coming days as part of a comprehensive strategy to tackle the root of the drainage issue.
BJP worker Om Prakash Kukreja expressed his gratitude towards Councillor Vijay Parmar for initiating this long-pending work. “It’s essential to not only clean the drain thoroughly from within but also ensure that the waste collected is immediately removed. The drain should be properly covered with slabs to prevent further problems,” he said.
Representatives of the local Interest Committee, BS Yadav and MP Sharma, emphasized the seriousness of the issue, noting that sewage entering the rainwater drains had created long-term blockages. “The debris is now being cleared using JCBs, and the illegal connections are being identified and closed. This work will extend up to New Colony via Gaba Ki Kothi to provide a permanent solution,” they stated.
Residents have echoed these concerns and suggestions, demanding that the entire drain system be cleaned to prevent blockages and future complications.
Reiterating their commitment, Rajiv Kumar confirmed that the drainage slabs will start being installed immediately after cleaning is completed. “Today we’ve started the removal of illegal sewer connections in Sector 7 and Kataria Market for the complete cleanliness and development of Ward 32,” he said.
The local BJP team, along with Councillor Vijay Parmar and his PA Satyanarayan, have been widely appreciated for their dedication and proactive approach. The community hopes this project will significantly improve sanitation and public health conditions in the area.
