Gurugram (Paridhi Dhasmana), 22 December. This Monday morning, an open manhole was spotted right in the middle of the main road at Kabir Bhawan Chowk in Gurugram, exposing a serious lapse in civic safety and road maintenance.
Despite repeated incidents across the city, the uncovered manhole—of considerable depth—remains unattended, with no warning signage, barricades, or safety markers in place. The absence of basic precautions has turned the busy stretch into a clear hazard for both pedestrians and motorists.
The manhole is dangerously deep, increasing the risk of vehicles getting trapped or individuals falling in, especially during low-visibility hours. The road witnesses regular traffic movement, making the situation all the more alarming.
The incident has once again raised questions over when the Gurugram Municipal Corporation (MCG) will step in and take responsibility, instead of reacting only after accidents occur.
Without immediate intervention, the open manhole could lead to a serious mishap. For now, the danger remains open—quite literally—waiting for action that is yet to arrive.
