Gurugram: Amity International School, Sector 46, Gurugram, hosted its Annual Function for students of Grades III to XII on October 4, with the theme ‘Tamaso Ma Jyotirgamaya – Guru is the Guiding Light’. The grand event witnessed the participation of 2,279 students and celebrated the timeless role of a guru as a guiding force who leads learners from darkness to light, ignorance to knowledge and self-doubt to confidence.

The event was held under the guidance of Dr. Ashok K. Chauhan, Founder President, RBEF, and Dr. (Mrs.) Amita Chauhan, Chairperson, RBEF & Amity Schools. School Principal Dr. (Mrs.) Arti Chopra welcomed the distinguished guests and the gathering.
Priyanshu Dewan, HPS, ACP Cyber Crime, Gurugram, and Dr. Himani Ahluwalia, Director, Lady Hardinge Medical College & Associated Hospitals, attended the event as special guests.
The celebrations began with two exhibitions, the Heritage Exhibition and Kaushal Bodh – Skill Based Exhibition, showcasing the students’ learning, creativity and skills.
The main programme opened with a welcome presentation by the students, followed by a spectacular school orchestra performance featuring more than 250 Amitians. Principal Dr. Arti Chopra then presented the annual report, highlighting the school’s achievements and key milestones over the past year.
The Student Council presented ‘The Victory Saga of Success’, showcasing the achievements of Amitians through the students’ own voices and perspectives.
A patriotic presentation of ‘Vande Mataram’ by the students of Amitasha, introduced by the Scouts & Guides, added to the spirit of the evening. This was followed by the Amity Hall of Honour, where students were felicitated for their outstanding achievements in various fields.
The special guests were also felicitated and addressed the gathering. The ceremonial lighting of the inaugural lamp then marked the beginning of the evening’s main attraction, the much-awaited dance drama ‘Tamaso Ma Jyotirgamaya – Guru is the Guiding Light’.
Presented across ten scenes, the dance drama explored the role of the guru through various chapters of Indian history and philosophy. Through a combination of dance, music and dramatic storytelling, the students brought alive themes of knowledge, perseverance, character, courage, service and nation-building.
The performance conveyed the message that education goes beyond academic knowledge. It is also about building character, developing courage, discovering purpose and becoming responsible individuals.
Addressing the gathering, Dr. (Mrs.) Amita Chauhan congratulated the entire Amity-G46 team for their efforts and appreciated the creativity, dedication and teamwork behind the presentation. She highlighted the eternal significance of the guru as a guiding light who leads learners from ignorance to knowledge, self-doubt to confidence and potential to purpose.
She expressed hope that the light of wisdom would continue to guide every Amitian towards knowledge, character, courage and a purposeful life while nurturing responsible and compassionate global citizens.
The evening concluded with the School Song and National Anthem. The annual function brought together heritage, skill-based learning, music, student achievements and a powerful cultural presentation, leaving the audience with a message about the enduring role of the guru in guiding individuals towards knowledge and purpose.
