Gurugram (Paridhi Dhasmana), 22 August – When official reports drown in jargon, Instagram Reels sometimes float to the surface with more honesty than any civic statement. Case in point: Eliza Ue (@eliza_withluv), a Russian citizen living in Gurugram, who has gone viral for turning her waterlogged society into a low-budget Venice—set to music and wrapped in satire.
Her Reel starts innocently enough. Dry streets, a playful wish to the Universe—“Please, make me go to Venice 🛶.” One finger snap later, Gurugram obliges. Streets transform into canals, a hapless two-wheeler drags its weight through knee-deep water, and the city’s tagline “Millennium City” gets an unplanned aquatic rebrand.

The comments section? A masterclass in crowd-sourced satire.
• “Crore ke flats, lakhon ki gaadi, aur do kodi ki sadke,” wrote one user, compressing Gurugram’s contradictions into a single punchline.
• “We were going to rent here, thank God we didn’t—cause I don’t have a boat,” quipped another.
• “Gurgaon is a planned city. Planned to become Venice soon,” observed a third, managing to outdo even the most cynical op-ed.
Even Eliza herself joined in, replying dryly to one follower questioning the drainage: “As you can see.” Sometimes three words sting harder than a thousand-page audit report.
But behind the humor lies a waterlogged truth. This isn’t just about one posh colony; it’s about a city that builds gleaming towers and luxury villas yet can’t seem to get the basics—like drainage—right. Gurugram’s annual transformation into a monsoon amusement park has become so routine that residents now arm themselves with sarcasm instead of outrage.
Comedy, after all, is survival. When citizens call their home “Venice Lite” or “Venice Hybrid Mode,” they’re doing more than joking—they’re documenting an urban failure that’s become as predictable as the rain.
So, Gurugram may sell the dream of being a Millennium City, but in the monsoon season, it prefers to cosplay as Venice. Just without the gondolas, the romance, or, frankly, the planning.
