Gurugram (Paridhi Dhasmana), 10 April – The residents of Sector 15, Part 1 in Gurugram, are living in fear due to increasing attacks by monkeys and stray dogs. In a disturbing incident on Wednesday morning, a 55-year-old woman was severely attacked by a monkey, leading to multiple injuries and stitches on her head. The incident has intensified the panic among locals, who are now demanding urgent action from the authorities.
According to local resident and advocate Gaurav Bhardwaj, the victim, Nisha Gounder, was attacked around 9 AM near her residence. “The monkey scratched and clawed at her violently. Doctors had to put 6 to 7 stitches on her head. There are visible scratch marks on other parts of her body as well,” Bhardwaj said.
Highlighting the growing threat, Bhardwaj stated that in the last three months alone, monkeys and stray dogs have attacked 15 to 20 people in the area. One particularly harrowing case involved a physiotherapist who was attacked by a pack of five to six dogs while visiting a patient on NH145. In an attempt to escape, the doctor sped up his bike, lost control, and suffered a major accident. His treatment has cost nearly ₹3 lakh, and he has been advised two months of complete bed rest following recent surgery.
Bhardwaj has submitted a formal complaint to the Joint Commissioner of the Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG), urging immediate and permanent action to control the menace.
“Monkeys have been entering homes, damaging property, and even toppling flower pots that pose a threat to both parked vehicles and pedestrians below,” he added. “The situation has become so dangerous that children and the elderly can’t step out alone. Kids no longer play outside and are terrified while going to school.”
The incident has deepened the atmosphere of fear in the locality. Residents are now appealing to the administration to urgently intervene and free the area from the terror of monkeys and stray dogs before more lives are endangered.
